EPS on the way to a greener portfolio

From RES Conference

After the first RES auctions, most of the winners wanted to conclude contracts with Elektroprivreda Srbije, as expected, and we did it successfully. Besides SEEPEX, EPS supports RES projects to develop in the future, said Davor Pupovac, Director of the Market Analysis and Risk Management Department of Elektroprivreda Srbije at the RES Serbia Conference in Vrdnik. At the panel “Electricity Market 4.0”, within the conference organized by RES Serbia, Pupovac pointed out that EPS was also developing its large, strategic green projects. Asked how the strategic partnership for 1 GW of solar capacity, which should soon come to life in its full form, will affect electricity prices in the context where Serbia does not have negative prices, Pupovac said that EPS portfolio would change in the future. - We will have our own RES power plants, we are building traditional warehouses, such as the pumped storage hydro power plant Bistrica. All this technology and also active customers, as well will have their places in the future of the energy transition. With such RES development, everyone has to make their own contribution. Given our portfolio, there should be no impact on prices – explained Pupovac. The panel discussed agreements on power purchase (PPAs), balancing, ancillary services market and batteries, i.e. energy storage. The panelists agreed that balancing was recognized as a “bottleneck” for more aggressive development of green projects and that it remained the only regulated market. They pointed out that the future PSHPP Bistrica is a great resource that will be able to supplement the lacking megawatts of balancing power.
