Last year,
the Joint Stock Company "Elektroprivreda Srbije" made a historic
profit of one billion euros, and the financial results for the first quarter of
this year are also very good. EPS sees the enhancement of the investment
program as its main direction - said Mr. Dejan Ostojić, member of the
Supervisory Board of "Elektroprivreda Srbije" at the opening of the
39th International Conference "Energy 2024".
He
emphasized that this is very important because the challenges that lie ahead
require financially strong electric power industry companies. At the conference
organized by the Association of Energy Sector Specialists, Mr. Ostojić pointed
out that the profession always finds solutions, and the only question is
whether we can follow those solutions and implement the planned investments.
- One to two
percent of the country's gross GDP should be investments in energy, and in the
past, the circumstances did not allow us to invest so much, and that is why
today's both daily and strategic challenges are much greater - said Mr. Ostojić.
He said that
the members of the EPS JSC Supervisory Board visited the site of the upper
reservoir of the Pumped Storage Hydro Power Plant Bistrica yesterday and that
the most beautiful moment was when they met a female colleague who graduated
from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering last year as the best student.
According to him, this is one of the indicators of how human resources in EPS
will develop in the coming period.
Mr. Nikola Rajaković, president of the Association
of Energy Sector Specialists,
pointed out that decarbonization is the most serious task that has developed before
the energy industry since the time of Nikola Tesla.
- In Europe,
70% of energy is fossil-based, and we need to abandon what is dominant, to replace
it with renewable energy sources, introduce energy storage and learn how to
manage this system. This is a serious job that needs to be done in the next two
to three decades - Mr. Rajaković said.
