The „Elektroprivreda Srbije” is the largest lignite producer in the Republic of Serbia, and this power product is the greatest source of electricity in the country. About 70 percent of electricity is generated from the coal used in EPS’ thermal power plants.
Production of the coal that is used as the main fuel in thermal power plants of „Elektroprivreda Srbije” is performed on the open cast mines of Kolubara and Kostolac basins, located in the vicinity of thermal power plants.
Kolubara open cast mines produce about 75 percent of lignite in Serbia and supply thermal power plant Kolubara, thermal power plants Nikola Tesla and thermal power plant Morava. 25 percent of Serbian lignite is produced in Kostolac basin and it is used for the supply of thermal power plant Kostolac.
