Mines are safe, no damage, production stable

The heavy rainfall did not jeopardize generation of electricity

Coal production in the Kolubara Mining Basin is stable, and yesterday's very heavy rainfall did not jeopardize the mines, nor did they cause any property damage to mining equipment. A large amount of rain that fell yesterday afternoon in a very short period of time hampered the production process, but employees, excavators and other mining machinery were not jeopardized.

Generation of electricity was not jeopardized at any time, nor did it suffer consequences of the rainfall. Moreover, there was no emergency purchase of electricity at any time.

The system is organized in such a way that water is collected through drainage systems and water collectors at specific points within the mines. Two large dams, Bistrica and Trbušnica, built by EPS, as part of the Peštan River Basin regulation project for the protection of the Field "E" Open Cast Mine and local communities along the river basin, retained about two million cubic meters of water. All other facilities of the system for the protection of mines against floods were also in operation, and in this way the overflow of watercourses into the mines was prevented.

The employees of "Kolubara" and EPS have once again shown their readiness, dedication and commitment to respond in emergency situations.
