The rehabilitated unit in the pumped-storage hydro
power plant Bajina Bašta has successfully completed 30-days Trial Run, and as
of March 1, Elektroprivreda Srbije will begin the modernization of the second unit.
Upon completion of the rehabilitation of our only pumped-storage hydro power
plant, which was built 43 years ago, the reliability of our power system will
be significantly improved.
During the Trial Run under both, pumping and turbine
modes, the first rehabilitated unit performed without a single outage, under
the supervision of experts from the Japanese company Toshiba and local
institutes Nikola Tesla and Mihajlo Pupin. All parameters of the unit operation
were intensively monitored and it was confirmed that the set rehabilitation
goals were achieved.

Bašta is one of the most important investments in Elektroprivreda Srbije
because it will provide decades of reliability of operation and will provide a
significant contribution to the energy security of Serbia - said Dušan
Živković, General Manager of EPS.
PSHPP Bajina Bašta is the only pumped-storage hydro
power plant within EPS and is an important reserve in the Serbian power system
during periods of increased electricity consumption or during dry periods, as
well as for all those times when there is a shortage of electricity.
