The first phase of the rehabilitation of the pumped-storage hydro power plant Bajina Bašta has been completed

After successfully completed tests, the first rehabilitated unit in the pumped-storage hydro power plant Bajina Bašta, started its one-month Trial Run on January 6th. This rehabilitation project in our only pumped-storage HPP is being implemented 42 years after its construction, and the rehabilitation of the second unit should begin on March 1st. After a 30-day trial mode of the R1 unit, a 2-year Defect Notification Period will follow, and at the beginning of February, the Japanese company Toshiba, together with the contractors Nikola Tesla Institute and Mihailo Pupin Institute will officially hand over the first rehabilitated unit to EPS. - The rehabilitation of the pumped-storage hydro power plant Bajina Bašta brings additional security to our power system, greater reliability and extension of the life cycle of the gold reserve in the system of Elektroprivreda Srbije. Our only pumped-storage hydro power plant is an important reserve during periods of increased electricity consumption or during dry periods. In the past 42 years of operation, the PSHPP Bajina Basta has confirmed that its construction was justified, because with the reserve of electricity deposited in the reservoir in Zaovine, it contributed to the secured supply of electricity – said Mr. Dušan Živković, General Manager of EPS. The Trial Run of the R1 unit was preceded by Tests on Completion of the unit and its accessories, which demonstrated that the equipment was ready for Trial Run in every operation mode.
