In the century that will be the century of kilowatt-hours, it is necessary to use all available resources for electricity generation and to diversify both the energy and the economy as much as possible, said
Dušan Živković, General Manager of
Elektroprivrede Srbije, at Kopaonik Business Forum.
The time of green transition should be regarded more from the perspective of the need to use all available energy sources, since the power industry will be an activity that will mark this century. The energy sector is expected not only to provide energy for a growing economy, but also to be a carrier of overall economic growth. The goal is to ensure long-term energy security, certainly with the profitability of the company, and that is why EPS is developing strategic projects such as Bistrica Pumped-Storage HPP and 1 GW of solar. Besides, we also want to recognize the potentials of hydrogen, but also of biomass and geothermal energy, as well – said
Živković.
He pointed out that the task of EPS is to create conditions for ensuring the energy security of Serbia and long-term energy peace, but also, as the largest regional company, to contribute to the energy security of the entire region.
The time ahead of us expects this, which is why we have started the process of company’s transformation, since we need to be more efficient and ready to respond to all challenges", Živković said at the green energy transition panel.
He highlighted the funding of green energy projects as one of the key challenges of the decarbonization process.
Energy companies will undergo additional pressure of the economy due to the introduction of CBAM and CO2 footprint and will face the challenge of financing new RES projects. We need a long-term decarbonization process funding mechanism and we expect the Energy Community and the European Union to find solutions - said Živković.
