Green transition and decarbonization are key topics
for the future of energy sector and they are at the focus of business
operations of Elektroprivrede Srbije, since they are of fundamental importance
in ensuring the energy security – said Radovan Stanić, EPS Assistant General
Manager, at the occasion of the Energy Sector Decarbonization Conference opening.
At the conference organized by the Energy Law Association,
Stanić emphasized that the transition implied gradually reduction in the share
of coal in the energy mix and increase of the share of renewable energy sources,
along with planned optimization of electricity generation.
- This requires clear strategies, financial resources
and comprehensive overview of possible scenarios. EPS recognizes its key role
in the development of new projects aligned with EU standards, which implies
more intensive use of RES. The goal of EPS is decarbonization and achievement
of carbon neutrality through the projects for construction of wind and solar
power plants, as well as the revitalization of the existing hydropower plants.
EPS is determined to contribute to the goal of achieving RES share of 45% by
2030, which will ensure the stability and independence of Serbia’s energy
sector – said Stanić
Davor Pupovac, Director of the Department for Market
Analysis and Risk Management in Electricity Trading, spoke about electricity
trade in the conditions of the merger of the electricity market of the Republic
of Serbia with the electricity market of the European Union.
- When you are in trading business, it's important to
have portfolio diversification. EPS trades in multiple markets, which has
proven to be a good thing. Stock exchanges in the region, as well as our stock
exchange, increase liquidity every year. We have the possibility now to adjust the
portfolio that depends on consumption from generation in such manner as to take
advantage of the moments of low electricity market prices and to sell when
market prices are much higher – said Pupovac.
