JICA Delegation Visited FGD Plant in TENT A

The construction of the desulfurization plant (FGD) at TENT A had been successfully completed and we were very pleased with our joint project, contributing to improving environmental protection and reducing sulphur dioxide emissions, said Toyama Kei, Director General of the Europe and Middle East Department of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). He pointed out that the desulphurization plant extended the working life of TENT A, which is of multiple importance for energy security. The Director General of JICA's Europe and Middle East Department also said that it was necessary to pay attention to the maintenance of this complex system, as well as to the professional training of employees, and that JICA would continue to support the energy sector of Serbia in the future. Srdjan Josipović, Energy Production Director at TENT, presented the desulphurization project at four units of TENT A, worth EUR 219 million, and emphasized that the same plant is being built in TENT B. - With these environmental projects at our largest thermal power plants in Serbia, we provided better environmental protection in compliance with the European environmental standards. Thus, the emission of sulphur dioxide would be below 200 milligrams per cubic meter, and the emission of particulate matter would be below 20 milligrams per cubic meter – said Josipović. – Despite the external problems that had followed the realization of the FGD plant in TENT A, the COVID 19 pandemic, and the conflict in Ukraine, due to the efforts of both sides, we had successfully built the plant and successfully put it into operation. Now, this plant has excellent results and the employees managing the production in such a complex system are being trained intensively. The JICA delegation visited the desulphurization plant, and Ljiljana Velimirović, FGD project manager, presented the performances and current results. Mutual readiness to continue cooperation on future projects was highlighted during the visit.
