The aim of transformation of “Elektroprivrede Srbije” is a long-term energy and financial stability, also market operations and necessary investments, not the privatization and redundant employees in any way – said Dušan Živković, EPS JSC Director, in RTS “Jutarnji dnevnik”.

He highlighted that the actual geopolitical situation and energy crisis imposed a new reality in the power industry worldwide, and energy companies were challenged by key issues regarding energy sovereignty and security, Green Agenda…

-  EPS has recognized a need to change itself and to enter the process of structural reforms and transformation of the company. The state remains the owner of EPS and privatization is absolutely not the topic in consideration. Transformation of EPS also implies the process of HR enhancing while the redundancy of employees is not a topic. The EPS transformation plan contains specific structural, financial and operational improvements in business operations and these processes are estimated to be implemented in the following year and a half or two – said Živković.

He pointed out that the stories on EPS unbundling the electricity trade were not true, since it is one of the most important functions and it will be under the competence of the Director. EPS CEO explained that the company’s expectations with regard to the electricity trade are great and that’s why it got a top place in the company. However, just in 2024, EPS made a profit of 38 million euros from trading at the free market.

Živković said, about whether EPS imports the electricity these days, that EPS acts in a market-oriented way and such segment means profit.

- On days like the previous weekend days or sunny days, the price on exchanges was as high as minus 10, up to 5 and 10 euros per MWh, in which case own resources, good hydrology and coal landfills should be saved and relatively cheep electricity should be provided which could be placed later on in other moments when it is significantly more expensive. In evening hours, it may be even 200 euros per MWh – said Živković.

As a guest in RTS “Jutarnji dnevnik”, Živković pointed out that the electricity price for households wouldn’t be changed.
