The
second phase of the rehabilitation of the pumped-storage hydro power plant
Bajina Bašta started with the works on R2 unit.
The
life cycle of the rehabilitated units will be extended by several decades,
which will be a great support to the Serbian power system. The PSHPP is
practically a stand-by power plant that is capable of replacing any other unit
in the system of Elektroprivreda Srbije, and at the same time, due to its
characteristics, it can cover the peaks of daily consumption - said Mr. Dušan
Trišić, Director for Energy Production in Drinsko-Limske HPPs branch.
It is
planned that the work on the equipment of the pump-turbine, motor-generator, generator
excitation system, control system and electrical protections system, and generator
voltage equipment will be completed in seven months. This practically includes
the complete technological tree of a unit and will considerably increase the
reliability of the operation of the PSHPP Bajina Bašta. The pump-turbine runner
and wicket gates will be completely replaced, as well as the segments of the
upper generator bearings, guide, thrust and turbine bearings. Some of the
equipment is on site, some should arrive in the next few weeks, while the runner
and wicket gates will be delivered in June.
The
rehabilitation project is divided into three segments, and the first one, which
includes the procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of the
pump-turbine and motor-generator, has been contracted with the Japanese company
Toshiba. Within the second segment, the experts from the Mihailo Pupin
Institute will rehabilitate the control system, i.e., the electrical
protections system and generator voltage equipment, while the third segment
involves the rehabilitation of the unit excitation system in PSHPP which will
be executed by the Nikola Tesla Institute.
