New excavator for production increase at mine Drmno


EPS continues cooperation with the Chinese partners ​(Belgrade, 23rd January 2017) PE Electric Power Industry of Serbia has started the mounting of modern mining equipment for the increase of coal production at the Open Cast Mine Drmno thus starting the second phase of the modernization of TPP Kostolac B. Excavator-Conveyor-Spreader System (ECS) is worth 123 million dollars and, as contracted, the entire job will be conducted by the Chinese company China Machinery Engineering Corporation – CMEC. - This is a significant day for Serbia and energy system of our country since the new unit in TPP Kostolac B will be the first large power plant built in Serbia after three decades. New preconditions for coal production in Serbia will be created by the end of 2019 and new Unit B3 in Kostolac will be completed in 2020 – said Mr. Aleksandar Antic, the Minister of Mining and Energy. The Minister added that besides the foreign companies Krupp and Sandvik, domestic companies will also be engaged in the mounting which proves that our companies are capable of delivering work of equal quality as large international companies. - EPS opens a new development chapter in mine basin Kostolac that is also very significant for the energy stability in Serbia. By investing into new mining machibery we create the preconditions for the increase of production capacities at the mine Drmno, from the existing nine to twelve million tons of annual coal production – said Mr. Milorad Grcic, Acting Director of Electric Power Industry of Serbia. He pointed out that similar excavator was installed in MB Kolubara about a year ago and that return on the investment in new excavator at mine Drmno will be in five years.- - Future of Kostolac and Kolubara is safe for at least half a century – said Mr. Grcic. New ECS system at the mine Drmno is comprised of the bucket wheel excavator with the capacity of 6600 m3 of burden per hour, eight conveyors with two meters wide belt, 12 km long transport system and spreader with the capacity of 8500 m3/h and two new substations. Project in Kostolac is implemented based on the Bilateral Agreement between Serbia and China. The Ambassador of China in Belgrade, Mr. Lee Manchang thanked the Government of Serbia, the Minister Mr. Antic and for the engagement of the Prime Minister Mr. Aleksandar Vucic who enabled this great start of the implementation of the second phase of modernization at TPP Kostolac B. - During 2017 we will initiate several projects within bilateral cooperation. The Chinese bank was opened in Serbia so now I expect the arrival of a large number of Chinese investors – said the Ambassador. Mounting of excavator has begun and mounting of spreader will be initiated in February which will be followed by the activities on the mounting of drive stations, transport system and substation construction. CMEC representative, Mr. Zigang Tong said that this company will meet defined deadline and that it will implement the project according to the highest standards adding that their best management will be engaged in this project. Total value of the second phase of the project of modernization at TPP Kostolac B that includes the construction of new unit and the increase of production at the mine Drmno amounts to 715.6 million dollars, out of which the loan of the Chinese EXIM Bank amounts to 608 million dollars and the rest of the funds provides EPS from its own funds.
